Minutes of the July 9, 2011 Annual Meeting

Meeting location: Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Attending: Sign-up sheet attached to secretary’s copy of minutes.

Also attending: Jan Kirwan, LuAnn Tafoya MVBSP Staff

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Bob Hull, Vice President

Officers and Board Members attending were recognized for identification.

OLD BUSINESS:

1     Bob Hull read the Treasurer’s report, since Treasurer Jerry Moser was not present. The current balance as of July 7 is $5,794.54, of which $1,000 is earmarked for educational purposes, and $100 is a loan to the Park to make change for visitors.

2     Discussion of a free-running display screen in the Visitors’ Center. Bob/Vic and Jan will determine where this needs to be, somewhere near where the volunteers are stationed.

3     Magiscopes: LuAnn demonstrated the new Magiscopes. The Friends have purchased 6 for the Education Program’s use.  Pipettes and Petri dishes are still needed.  Discussion of whether to place one Magiscope in the Visitors’ Center; clearly it would need to be clamped down and be in view of volunteers working there. No action was taken.  LuAnn also announced an illustrated lecture at 10:00 Sat. morning, given by the Konings in the classroom.

4     Survey results: Vic reviewed the results of the on-line survey conducted several months ago. The results are available at our web site as well.

5     Farmer’s Market booth to promote Friends – Winifred reviewed the success at the Farmer’s Market thus far. The next date we should try to get is in the fall, to tie in with one of the fall events at the Park: Valle de Vida in October and the Holiday Event planned for second Saturday in December.

6     Trail Cam:  Bob reviewed the information for this.  Friends are committed to purchase at least one for the Park; assumed cost will be at least $500.

Move to adjourn at 10:00 a.m. (Win) seconded (Jackye) passed unanimously.

 Respectfully submitted,

Susan Ansara, Secretary
