Minutes of the October 15, 2011 General Membership Meeting


Meeting location: Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Also attending: Jan Kirwan, MVBSP Staff


The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Sylvia Hacker, President

BEMP Program:

Morgan McNabb presented information about the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program is joint effort coordinated by the University of New Mexico's (UNM) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) network and Bosque School.  BEMP research is conducted by student and citizen volunteers along the Middle Rio Grande and its associated riparian forest, known locally by its Spanish name 'bosque'.  Through this project, citizen and student groups accept responsibility for gathering long-term data related to the overall condition of the forest ecosystem located along New Mexico's most prominent river.  Primary program start up funding was through the National Science Foundation.

Morgan then led interest members on a tour of the research site at the Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park.

2     Jerry Moser then reported on the Nominating committee. The committee has identified a person interested in joining the board and also has a good lead on someone for the position of treasurer. Anyone interested in joining the Friends as a officer or board member can get a application from Jerry.

3     Jan Kirwan presented information about the upcoming Valle de Vida day at the park. Due to budgetary issues she was not able to get posters for the event from the state.  She asked that the Friends assist with getting the word out through email or placing Valle de Via information sheets at businesses.
