Meeting Minutes

General Meeting –April 24, 2012 7:00 p.m.


Meeting location: Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Vic Crane, President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Present: Sign-in sheet, maintained with secretary copy of minutes. 

New Business:

Presentation by Dr. Martha Desmond, NMSU, on the City of Las Cruces/New Mexico State University Burrowing Owl Management Program. Dr. Desmond’s power point presentation (minus her photos due to file size issues) is attached and will be sent out with the meeting minutes. Following her presentation the Friends discussed the proposed Burrowing Owls Project at MVBSP. A copy of Vic Crane’s power point presentation with materials and timelines is attached and will be sent out with the minutes. Unanimous re-affirmation to go ahead with the project. 

Approval of meeting minutes from the February 20 meeting: Winifred Jahnke moved to accept; Annette Slater seconded; unanimously approved. 

Treasurer’s Report:  Fred reported that as of April 24, our account had a balance of $6,007.26. 

Old Business:

Amendments to the by-laws: Two separate votes were taken to amend the by-laws. Jerry Moser moved to accept the amendment to require all Friends to register also as Volunteers; Barb Sauter seconded; motion was passed with one vote opposed. Bob Hull moved to accept the amendment permitting officers ending their term of service to be able to run immediately for Board membership; Annette Slater seconded; motion was unanimously passed. Copies of both amendments are attached to the minutes.  Vic will inquire about the best means to send the amendments to Santa Fe for their approval.  

News from the Park:  Jan announced that the Park will offer two day camps, the weeks of June 18 and 25. Details are being worked out, and information will be available soon.  The funds will by collected and disbursed by the Friends organization.  

Vic announced that the Friends will be at the Farmers’ Market on June 2. This will allow us to publicize the day camps at that time.  

The next Board meeting will be Monday, May 14.

The next General meeting will be May 19 at approx. 3:15. This will be an exhibit of the photographs of the park taken by the Las Cruces Photography Club last month, together with an opportunity to mingle with other Friends and visitors to the park; beer and wine will be available for purchase through an outside vendor.  Details are being worked out.  

The July 7 General Meeting will feature noted photographer Jerry Goff.  Details will be sent out soon. Motion to adjourn (Jackye); seconded (Win); unanimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
