Minutes of the Dec. 6, 2010 General Membership Meeting

Meeting location: Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Attending: Sign-up sheet attached to secretary’s copy of minutes.

Also attending: Jan Kirwan, MVBSP Staff

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 by Bob Hull, President

Officers and Board Members attending were recognized so that those present would know who they are.

Lauren Ross, graduate student at NMSU, showed her photos of animals and birds at the Park; the photos were taken over the course of this semester and captured much of the wildlife of the Park. The members thanked her for her presentation and congratulated her on her research work.

Motion to approve the minutes of the Oct. 14 meeting (Bob Hull) seconded (Jerry Moser), unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s report: Jerry reported that the balance from the Renaissance Faire was $9.96 after receipts were tallied and expenditures (primarily printing and booth rental) were paid out. The Friends’ checking account had a balance of $5,239.53 as of Dec. 1, of which $1,000 is earmarked for educational purposes, and $100 is a loan to the Park to make change for visitors.

Bob reminded all present that the deadline for receipt of applications for officer positions and board members is Dec. 10, a month before the annual meeting to be held on January 10, 2011.

Jackye Meineke exhibited the quilt being auctioned off at the up-coming second anniversary event at the Park on Dec. 11. Raffle tickets will be sold until the time of the raffle.

Bob announced the joint Audubon/Park event to be held in the Spring of 2011 in May or possibly April. He requested a volunteer to serve as liaison to the Audubon Society, which is organizing the event. Annette Slater agreed to serve.

Bob Hull called for nominations and expressions of interest for Board Members and Officers for 2011.

Jan Kirwan, Park Superintendant, reported on plans for the Anniversary Event / Birthday Party for Dec. 11. The Park is partnering with the Town of Mesilla, and there will be several events between 3 and 7 p.m. – a bird walk, a gospel choir, food and beverages served, luminarias along the walkways. A good crowd is anticipated.
Jan also reported that Rolf Hechler has tasked her with preparing a brochure in January to publicize the Park.
She reported as well that LuAnn Tafoya has received an “America Beautiful” grant to improve the entrance into the Park.

Next meeting: Monday, January 10 (a week later than our normal date) at 6:30 at the Park.

Motion to adjourn at 7:20 (Jackye) seconded by Susan. Passed unanimously.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Ansara, Secretary
